By Way of Introduction
Old age will creep in without a hunch. This observation is attributed to Roman satirist Decimus Junius Juvenalis (better known as Juvenal). Allow me to paraphrase: Society's ageing has crept in and we have failed to notice the fact. Our leaders have started playing the "green card", which is good, but they and maybe also the majority in society have failed to appreciate that longevity is normal.
Ninety years ago (sic!) Karel Čapek splendidly took up the issue of ageing in his drama, The Makropoulos Case. Admittedly, the lifetime of humans has extended, but the question is how to fill it with a content and purpose. This is the name of the game. How should one ensure dignity for senior citizens, their autonomy and the care taken of them?
We have yet to decide whether we can live longer and enjoy what we see. There are many hurdles in store for us. Political hurdles and inner barriers.
Dear visitors to this website, we'd be happy if you could find not only the information you can use, but also room to speak out. You will provide us with proofs that at least one single obstacle – modern communication technologies – can be taken in stride by modern seniors. Which is good.
